MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR CLINICAL PSYCHIATRY CAREER!

There are no limits to what you can achieve when you join Hartford HealthCare -the most integrated system in Connecticut. There are MORE OPPORTUNITIES to practice with nationally respected colleagues in a progressive, physician led environment. MORE OPTIONS to practice within our broad network, which includes seven acute care hospitals, one of the largest academic and surgical hospitals in the northeast, thriving community teaching hospitals, and one of the largest multi-specialty medical groups in New England with more than 1,000 providers.

The Institute of Living, one of the first mental health centers in the U.S., remains one of America's leading not-for-profit centers for patient care, research and education in the fields of behavioral, psychiatric and addiction disorder. Through our dedicated, experienced and skilled clinicians, we provide patients and their families with the highest quality of personalized care. This position is a collaboration between the Institute of Living and Hartford HealthCare's Ayer Neuroscience Institute, and reflects our commitment to embedding behavioral health services in medical settings throughout the system.

Job Summary

Provides quality, cost effective outpatient care at the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center.

The Chase Family Movement Disorders Center is one of the fastest growing Movement Disorders Center in the nation. With three comprehensive care centers in Vernon, Cheshire, and Mystic, and three satellite locations in Hartford, Torrington, and Stamford, our patient volumes and outreach are expanding rapidly. We have demonstrated to patients that we take a whole-body approach to care. Our patients come to us with the highest expectations; to be treated by expert neurologists and clinicians, cared for by integrated specialists like psychiatrists, social workers, physical therapists, and neuropsychologists, and to benefit from free-of-charge wellness classes like yoga and boxing that are offered just down the hall.

The psychiatrist is a central and essential part of the care team. About 40% of movement disorders patients have associated major psychiatric comorbidities. These can have considerable implications for patient and caregiver stress, compliance with medications, and prognosis. When movement and psychiatric disorders are present concurrently, multidisciplinary cooperation between neurologist and psychiatrist is essential. Embedding a psychiatrist directly within the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center ensures that an optimal treatment approach is being taken to address both conditions and that patients are being treated with personalized, coordinated care.

Specific duties include neuropsychiatric and psychosocial assessments, clinical integration of behavioral health services, medication management, psychotherapy, and other appropriate psychiatric interventions. The psychiatrist would be part of the integrated care team, and this resource would be called upon to facilitate a single standard of neuropsychiatric care amongst regions, develop standard procedures with regard to psychiatric assessment and management, develop and deliver educational programs for patients and the wider community, and service in a leadership capacity supporting the growth and development of the program.

We anticipate that a fully productive psychiatrist will enhance the quality and safety of patient care at the center and ensure that patients are being optimally cared for. More importantly, this position will optimize physician time by addressing the psychiatric needs of their patients, thus contributing to both patient and provider satisfaction.

We support your development and wellbeing through the respected HHC Physician Leadership Development Institute and the groundbreaking Office of Provider Wellness.
