Job Description:
Effective physician leadership is needed for this Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Facility to help build a healthy One Intermountain culture, engage physicians, and work and leadership teams. This position champions provider growth and development, innovation, and continuous improvement and is accountable for the successes of the One Intermountain. The incumbent promotes excellence in the fundamentals of extraordinary care by engaging physicians, APP's, and teams across Intermountain Healthcare.

This opportunity is located at Logan, Utah.

Scope

The Medical Director is under the direction of the Facility (ASC) board and shall be responsible to Facility administration for providing information regarding the budgetary and other needs of Facility, for assisting in the development of administrative regulations as they pertain to Facility, for providing physician leadership for quality improvement programs and activities, and for cooperating with the administration in the effective management of Facility. This relationship shall apply only to administrative responsibilities as Medical Director of Facility and shall not, in any way, be construed to extend to Medical Director's clinical judgment and the provision of his/her medical services.

Job Duties :

  • Medical Direction. Medical Director shall provide medical direction for all services associated with Facility, emphasizing clinical quality process improvement matters and approval of standards and policies of these services.
  • Conformance with Policies. Medical Director shall provide such medical direction in conformance with Facility policies and procedures established from time to time by IHCHS, applicable Joint Commission standards, and any applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Records. Medical Director shall keep or cause to be kept accurate and complete administrative records in an adequate filing system to be furnished by Facility, ensuring compliance with all Facility, governmental, and applicable Joint Commission record keeping and recording requirements.
  • Training. Medical Director shall assist Facility in the training of Facility personnel where appropriate, including in-service education, provided such training is within the scope of Medical Director's expertise.
  • Strategic Planning. Medical Director, in partnership with the Operations Director, shall drive the strategic planning for Facility services.
  • Development of Policies. Medical Director shall participate in the development of written medical policies of Facility, with the approval of such policies to be pursued as may be necessary in accordance with Facility standards. Medical Director shall assist in securing compliance with the policies by all Facility personnel.
  • Quality of Care Utilization. Medical Director shall ensure that utilization and quality of care studies are regularly performed in accordance with Facility policy and accreditation standards.
  • Cooperation. Medical Director shall cooperate closely with other IHCHS facilities, service lines, and departments.
  • Outside Agencies. Medical Director shall coordinate and cooperate with outside agencies as necessary.
  • Equipment/Supplies. Medical Director shall collaborate with the supply chain, and if requested by Facility, lead the selection and standardization of supplies/implants utilized in Facility as medically appropriate, and, from time to time, determine the need for other necessary equipment and supplies and submit requisitions for the same to Facility. Such requisitions shall be processed in accordance with established budgeting and purchasing procedures. Medical Director will provide support to all Facility activities and goals.
  • Rules and Regulations. Medical Director represents and warrants to Facility that Services hereunder will be provided in adherence to principles of professional ethics and Facility rules and regulations, including, but not limited to: reporting of defective equipment; reporting of incompetent employees and physicians; maintaining confidentiality; and maintaining adequate records as set forth by Facility.
  • Meeting Attendance. Medical Director shall attend meetings related to Facility or the Medical Director role, as requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree. Education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification
  • Active Utah or Idaho Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure.
  • Two years of experience leading successful improvements in clinical settings.
  • Experience with change management with the ability to provide leadership in the adaptation and implementation of new processes or technology that enhance safety.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
