The Duke Orthopedics Division of Sports Medicine is seeking two Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians in the. Residency training and board certification/eligibility can be in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Physiatry. A fellowship in in Sports Medicine is required. The successful candidate will work alongside Duke orthopaedic surgeons at existing practices in Wake County (Raleigh, Wake Forest, Apex and Knightdale) to develop a full spectrum sports medicine service line to be marketed in the community.

The successful candidate will provide a full breadth of primary care sports medicine including:
  • Non-operative orthopedic care and procedures
  • Evaluation and treatment of sport-related concussion
  • Evaluation and treatment of non-orthopedic sports conditions
  • Organization of pre-participation medical exams to a variety of athletes of all ages and skills levels
  • Engagement in community outreach and event coverage to organizations with whom Duke Health has a relationship
  • Building relationships with schools, youth sports organizations, and other potential partners to provide full breadth sports medicine care
  • Serving as Head Medical Team Physician for Elon University (NCAA Division I)

Academic responsibilities include involvement in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship:
  • Active participation in didactic sessions at the Duke Sports Sciences Institute in Durham.
  • Contribute to the breadth of the fellowship to prepare participants to provide high quality, evidence based primary care sports medicine across a variety of settings.
  • Occasional teaching of residents and fellows during clinic sessions.
