We are seeking an outstanding physician to join the Medicine Service at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) as Chief of the Section of Rheumatology, a key leadership position at the VAAAHS. This individual will oversee patient care in the outpatient rheumatology clinics and the inpatient consultation service at the VAAAHS. The candidate will be expected to conduct scholarly activities and teach medical students, internal medicine house officers, rheumatology fellows, or other trainees. The candidate must be certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and will also hold a faculty appointment with the University of Michigan, Division of Rheumatology. The candidate will be responsible for achieving quality-of-care and access-to-care standards, process improvement, personnel management, and patient satisfaction involving the rheumatology Section at the VAAAHS. The candidate will have a track record of excellence in at least one of the following areas: clinical care, research, or education, as well as an aptitude for mentoring others in academic medicine. The VAAAHS is an exceptional healthcare system with a collaborative and collegial culture, a supportive infrastructure for mentorship and various types of research, and a track record of excellence. VAAAHS is currently ranked #10 among VA medical centers in research, #4 in inpatient Veteran satisfaction, and is one of only a few VA medical centers nationwide that has VA-supported centers of excellence in health services research, geriatrics, and patient safety.

The candidate will also be a leader within the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Michigan. The Division is nationally recognized for the exceptional breadth and depth of its clinical programs and scholarship, and has a distinguished record of ground-breaking patient-oriented clinical and basic research and a robust and growing portfolio of NIH and DOD-funded programs, including the NIAID-funded Clinical Science Autoimmunity Center of Excellence, perform a broad array of clinical trials, and operate a large academic fellowship program noted for its excellence. The Division consists of 54 faculty members, in excess of $7.7 million in annual grant funding.
