The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians seeks a highly motivated pathologist/clinical microbiologist to oversee testing within the Division of Clinical Microbiology at the Indiana University Health Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL). The IU Health Pathology Lab, which is located in downtown Indianapolis, serves as a centralized anatomic and clinical pathology testing facility for numerous IU Health hospitals, including five Indianapolis metropolitan hospitals and clinics throughout the state of Indiana. Overall, the IUHPL performs roughly 15 million diagnostic tests annually, and it is staffed by approximately 60 full-time pathologists and clinical scientists. Laboratory leadership are world-renowned experts in their respective disciplines who also serve as IU School of Medicine faculty.

The Division of Clinical Microbiology utilizes the latest in infectious disease diagnostics, including laboratory automation, and evaluates emerging technologies in order to best serve our continually expanding patient base. The high specimen volume and broad diversity of infectious diseases diagnosed by our laboratory lends to numerous educational opportunities. As such, the Division offers both an ACGME-accredited fellowship in medical microbiology and a CPEP-accredited post-doctoral fellowship in medical and public health laboratory microbiology. Additionally, there are educational opportunities offered by our pathology residency, clinical laboratory science, infectious disease pharmacy, and adult and pediatric infectious disease training programs. The Division also actively participates in industry-sponsored research and development, including FDA clinical trials for new laboratory instrumentation and diagnostic tests.

Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology
  • Applicants must also be qualified for medical licensure in the state of Indiana
  • Fellowship, PhD, Public Health/Microbiology (CPEP or ACGME) requirement
