Maine Medical Center has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and an integral part of Tufts University Medical School.

The Cardiac Surgery Program at Maine Medical Center is a 50-year old, well-established program with an annual volume of 1,500 cases. The case volume includes coronary revascularization, complex and minimally invasive valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, convergent maze procedures, open and endovascular thoracic aortic vascular procedures, and placement of ventricular assist devices (VADs). In addition, there is an active and growing Valve Clinic performing TAVR and Percutaneous MitraClip® procedures as well as an aggressive ECMO program.

The candidate must be eligible for certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and will join six adult cardiac surgeons, and one congenital cardiac surgeon. The successful candidate will be a well-trained cardiothoracic surgeon who would like to practice with a well-respected and collegial group of highly skilled colleagues. Candidates with thoracic aortic expertise preferred.

The position involves teaching and mentoring surgical residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program. The Maine Medical Center Research Institute (MMCRI) offers a wealth of academic opportunities for interested candidates. This faculty surgeon would have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine. The program participates fully in the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group as well as the STS database.

The candidate will be joining Maine Medical Partners, an organization within Maine Medical Center, Maine's largest multispecialty medical group serving the healthcare needs of patients locally and throughout northern New England. This high quality team of 600 physicians and 350 advanced practice professionals provides a wide range of hospital-based, primary, specialty, and sub-specialty care delivered throughout a network of 54 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network.
