Northwell Health Surgery Service Line and Staten Island University Hospital are seeking a Director of Breast Surgery with proven leadership and management skills in addition to strong clinical credentials. The Director plays a key role in physician recruitment efforts and business planning for growth and expansion. You will work closely with leadership from Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Radiology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and the full complement of medical and surgical specialties who are involved in the care of cancer patients.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

Education and Experience

  • M.Degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine
  • Completion of general surgical residency and a fellowship in breast surgery.
  • Board certification in general surgery
  • Experience as a department or division head, preferably in a major medical center or health system
  • Experience teaching residents and medical students.
  • Nationally recognized clinical, basic, and/or translational research program with an established record of publication in high impact journals
  • Outstanding communication and management skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with medical staff, hospital management, and staff
  • Active participation in relevant national societies

Staten Island University Hospital is a 714-bed teaching hospital that spans two campuses and provides a vast array of services in health and wellness. Our 17-acre North campus houses Staten Island’s most modern emergency department, a state-of-the-art education center and a medical arts pavilion. Our South campus boasts its own emergency department and offers a range of specialty programs, including geriatric psychiatry, behavioral health, and substance abuse services. The Department of Surgery at SIUH consists of 40 full-time and 6 part-time Physicians spanning the surgical disciplines of general vascular, breast, colorectal, bariatric, minimally invasive, hernia, trauma, plastics, pediatrics, podiatry, orthopedics, and ophthalmology.

The Comprehensive Breast Center resides within our main campus at SIUH North and houses a team consisting of breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurse navigators, and lymphedema therapists. The office is newly renovated and is state-of-the-art from top to bottom. It is one flight up from the ambulatory surgery center and a short walk to the main operating room in the adjacent main hospital building.

Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
