Medical Director, Microbiology

The Cleveland Clinic is recruiting a patients first academic pathologist or doctoral-level clinical microbiologist to join the Professional Staff of the Robert J. Tomisch Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute within the Section of Microbiology as a Medical Director of Microbiology. Candidates must be board-certified or eligible by the American Board of Pathology and/or the American Board of Medical Microbiology with expertise and training in clinical microbiology and/or molecular diagnostics. The Microbiology Section provides expert diagnostic services within the Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) and serves as the consolidated microbiology laboratory for CCHS hospitals throughout Northeast Ohio. The Section collaborates closely with Infectious Diseases, Infection Prevention, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Laboratory Stewardship. Areas within the Section include specimen processing, virology, bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, COVID-19 testing, sponsored-research, and molecular microbiology. The successful candidate will join the Microbiology Section and direct mycology, virology, parasitology, and/or molecular microbiology subsection(s). The Section is comprised of a dynamic, collaborative team of doctoral-level clinical microbiology staff and more than 130 medical laboratory scientists and technicians. Academic opportunities include clinical or translational research. Teaching opportunities include medical laboratory scientist students, medical students, residents, and fellows. An academic appointment in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University is available and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
