You will serve as a Physician Pediatric Anesthesiologist that provides direct medical services to eligible beneficiaries at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia. The selectee will provide anesthesia to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients for surgical, medical, and diagnostic procedures in and out of the operating room, providing pre-operative medical care for these patients.

This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Physician Anesthesiology with subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
  • Provide quality health care services in support of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
  • Provide Neonatal and Pediatric home call coverage on weekdays, weekends, and holidays as determined by the Department Head.
  • Provide Anesthetic services in the Main Operating Room, Pre-Anesthetic Assessment Center, Post-operative Care Unit, and in all locations throughout the hospital where Anesthesia Services are utilized.
  • Advocate for the patient during their per-operative care.
  • Conduct research efforts in the advancement of Anesthesiology.
  • Provide general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, neuraxial anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care as indicated based on patient and procedure.

  • Salary listed is based on a full-time work schedule; Salary will vary depending on location.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualification

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

  • DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation.
  • LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • RESIDENCY: 4 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training in Anesthesiology (e.g., 3 years. Residency and 1 year fellowship, or equivalent experience and training). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Pediatric Anesthesiology to perform the core privileges of this position.
