Job Details

The Department of Psychiatry at Zucker Hillside Hospital (ZHH) is seeking to recruit an experienced and creative scientist to serve as a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at The Institute of Behavioral Health. This unique role has the advantage of working with and leveraging resources at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the world renowned home of research at Northwell Health and Zucker Hillside Hospital, Northwell Health’s nationally recognized behavioral health center.

Led by some of the nation’s top research scientists, The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research work in conjunction with partners in government, academia, industry, and philanthropy to advance knowledge and make innovative therapies a reality.

The Institute for Behavioral Sciences leads the nation in research into intervention and services for severe mental health disorders. The institute runs a number of clinical trials not only to standardize outcome measurements in psychiatric research, but to ensure the translation of research into clinical practice.

At the heart of the institute is the Zucker Hillside Hospital, known for its pioneering clinical, teaching, and research programs. The National Institute of Mental Health has established a Clinical Research Center for the Study of Schizophrenia at Zucker Hillside Hospital, one of only four such facilities nationwide.

The Chief Scientific Officer is a key leadership position responsible for the development and implementation of an innovative research program focused on substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The CSO will work collaboratively with The Feinstein Institutes and leadership at Wellbridge, the first addiction treatment facility on Long Island, specifically designed to inspire seamless partnership between scientists and clinicians to apply the latest discoveries in addiction research.

Wellbridge is an innovative addiction treatment center established on the principles that the treatment of addiction must be based on solid scientific evidence. With a 6,000-square-foot research pavilion on its campus, Wellbridge will bridge the gap between research and the application of this research to patient care. Wellbridge extends its services and ensures the highest quality of addiction care through its partnership with Northwell Health, providing collaboration on research, specialized care services, and the opportunity to educate and train future addiction practitioners in coordination with The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Northwell Health is looking for an MD or DO level candidate with senior/doctoral-level training in a clinical and/or research discipline relevant to patient-centered outcomes research (e.g. neurobiology, addiction science, medicine/psychiatry, health services research); or a Master’s degree in one of these disciplines). Candidates must have a distinguished record of research leadership, including experience building a successful research program, knowledgeable about a range of SUD research area including the neurobiology of addiction, research on the efficacy of pharmacological and behavioral interventions, health services research and implementation science. A demonstrated history of creative thought leadership in research. Active involvement in conducting empirical research and implementation processes in addiction treatment settings is required.
