The Department of Pathology of the Duke University Medical Center seeks an academically oriented neuropathologist to provide diagnostic services. Applicants should have board certification in anatomic pathology and be board certified or eligible in neuropathology. Diagnostic responsibilities will include surgical neuropathology, intraoperative consultations for neuro cases, autopsy neuropathology, peripheral nerve and skeletal muscle pathology, ophthalmic pathology, and image cytometry/fluorescence in situ hybridization. Competitive candidates are those highly committed to patient care, who have excellent interpersonal skills, and who seek to advance the field of neuropathology through original and collaborative scholarship. Additional training/experience and willingness to potentially cover general autopsy pathology and/or another surgical pathology subspecialty is desirable.

The Department has 68 faculty members with 30 residents and fellows in anatomic (including neuropathology) and clinical pathology. Our surgical pathology service processes over 50,000 accessions annually, of which approximately 3,300 are surgical neuropathology, ophthalmic, muscle, and nerve biopsies. Autopsy neuropathology consultations are provided for approximately 230 cases per year. DUHS clinical laboratories perform over 16 million tests annually. The environment at Duke provides rich opportunities for exceptional clinical and translational research, both within the Department and in other Centers of Excellence in the Medical Center. Applicants should be committed to excellent patient care, as well as teaching, scholarship, multidisciplinary conferences, and research.
