Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is seeking an experienced critical care physician to lead its 24-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Candidates should have excellent management and interpersonal skills that will allow them to lead a division of highly skilled clinicians that includes Residents, Fellows, and Advanced Practitioners. The Chair should be capable of providing leadership to the organization regarding the needs of critically ill patients and the administration of surgical critical care units.

The candidate should have critical care board certification and extensive surgical critical care experience.

The ideal candidate would be comfortable with all aspects of care of critically ill surgical patients including Trauma, Liver and Kidney Transplant, Cardiothoracic, Colorectal, Vascular, among others.  

This leader is responsible for the clinical direction of the Surgical ICU in collaboration with hospital nursing leadership, participation in clinical coverage of the trauma-acute care surgery service and the Surgical ICU service, participate in fellow, resident, and mid-level provider education, and lead multidisciplinary critical care rounds.

Responsibilities also include compliance with, and promotion of safe, high quality service in order to meet or exceed standards for appropriate accreditation and verification of clinical programs by regulatory, accreditation. or verification agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited school of medicine
  • Board Certification in Critical Care
  • Eligible to obtain a license to practice in Massachusetts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical expertise in the full spectrum of critically ill surgical patients
  • Experience with performance of transthoracic and Trans esophageal echo, and ultrasound guided critical care procedures
  • Previous experience as Medical Director of a Surgical Critical Care unit

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly as an integral member of a team, and a leader
  • Proficiency in educational efforts
