The Department of Pathology at Duke University School of Medicine seeks a surgical pathologist with experience/interest in pulmonary pathology to provide diagnostic services. Applicants should have board certification in anatomic pathology and ideally be fellowship trained in thoracic pathology. Competitive candidates are those highly committed to patient care, who have excellent interpersonal skills, and who seek to advance the field of pulmonary pathology through original and collaborative scholarship.

The Department has 89 faculty members with 26 residents and fellows in anatomic and clinical pathology. Our Surgical Pathology service processes over 50,000 accessions annually and DUHS Clinical Laboratories perform over 16 million tests annually. The Division of Pulmonary Thoracic Pathology at Duke consists of four Pulmonary Pathologists and is known for its expertise in occupational lung disease, diseases of the pleura, and transplant pathology. We work closely with our thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists and oncologists to provide the best patient care.

Diagnostic responsibilities include neoplastic (including biomarker studies), non-neoplastic and transplant pathology as well as accompanying multidisciplinary conferences. Experience in cardiovascular pathology would be beneficial, but not required. The environment at Duke provides rich opportunities for exceptional clinical and translational research, both within the Department and in other Centers of Excellence in the Medical Center. Clinical responsibilities will be tailored to provide time for collaborative research. Teaching responsibilities include interactions with medical students, residents, fellows and trainees in multiple departments. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Women and under-represented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
