The Department of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center is seeking a BE/BC general surgeon with interest in advanced GI surgery and acute care surgery along with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery (including robotic experience). Ideal candidates will be comfortable with routine and complex general surgical procedures and have a willingness to participate in ACS/EGS coverage. This position will have co-appointments in both the Division of General Surgery and the Division of Surgical Oncology.

Interest in a more complex minimally invasive sub-specialty area is a plus. This includes laparoscopic and/or robotic approaches to benign foregut diseases and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. Candidates would develop a complex MIS general surgical elective practice and have intermittent responsibility for Emergency Room coverage during the day. Elective practice could be developed both at Duke Raleigh Hospital, as well as at Duke University Hospital. The successful applicant must have a desire to build a robust clinical practice while being integrally involved in the education and training of our general surgery residents and medical students.

Academic rank will be based on individual qualifications, with research and clinical productivity measures used to guide clinical track. Individuals are expected to participate fully in the activities of the Division(s), including clinical care, research, and teaching. Salary and title will be commensurate with skills and experience. The Department of Surgery offers a robust compensation plan that rewards clinical productivity and academic excellence.

Duke Raleigh is a medical surgical hospital with a growing, successful multi-specialty surgical program that now includes neurosurgery, surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, thoracic surgery and vascular surgery. The hospital currently has a 15 bed medical surgical ICU. In 2021, Duke Raleigh will add a 160,000-square foot, six-story tower on the south side of the current hospital. The new tower will include a new OR space on the first floor with larger replacement ORs and more support space. When the new bed tower opens, there will be a new ICU split into medical and surgical units.
