The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is positioned for growth and seeks a dynamic individual to join this collegial group. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and background in gender affirmation surgery and will play an integral role in further developing the multidisciplinary program at Temple University Hospital by offering the entire spectrum of surgical options to its patient population. Leadership opportunity available for qualified candidates.

The Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS) program was started at Temple University in 2018 and continues to be the preeminent program in the region. It boasts a close working relationship across a broad multidisciplinary team including professionals in psychiatry, urology, plastic surgery, social work, behavioral health, internal medicine, and other core specialties. Patients are supported by a clinical coordinator to help guide them through the process from start to finish. There are existing/established relationships with critical members and organizations in the community that focus on LGBTQ-related issues which help to provide growth opportunities for the program. Temple University Hospital has led the way in helping to overcome obstacles to the care of the LGBTQ community and remains a strong partner in the community to address their needs. The hospital stands ready and committed to support the potential candidate in building upon these established relationships to grow the program in scope and volume. A dedicated midlevel provider will support the candidate in the care of the patients. The hospital is committed to providing access to the candidate the resources needed to ensure the successful growth of the practice and to achieve the highest standards in patient related outcomes. In addition to these resources, the candidate will be supported by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellows in training. There is additional opportunity to offer a GAS fellowship in the future at such time that the clinical volumes and experience can satisfy the requirements of such a fellowship. This is an incredible opportunity for a candidate with interest in GAS to walk into an already established program with the fundamentals and resources already in place.

The mission of the Division continues to focus on excellence in patient care, medical education, while allowing for personal and professional growth. The Division also supports two independent plastic surgery residents per year as part of its three-year independent training program, and the candidate should have an active interest in resident teaching and education. In addition, scholarly activity in the form of peer reviewed publications, presentations at regional and national meetings, involvement with local and national societies, and other scholarly activity is encouraged. The candidate will be supported and have mentorship available within a strong Department of Surgery.

Successful candidates will be academically oriented and have a strong interest in clinical research, medical education, and growing a strong clinical practice. Training in an ACGME accredited plastic surgery residency program, active board certification in general surgery, BE/BC in plastic surgery and academic credentials that will support a faculty appointment at a minimum level of Assistant Professor is required.
