The Department of Medicine has a long record of accomplishment in the community, dating back several decades. It is built around the strong collaboration among the academic department, over 100 participating community physicians, and two busy hospitals. The long-established Internal Medicine Residency Program is fully accredited. It has a track record of 100% board pass rates for the last seven consecutive years and successful placement of its graduates into some of the most sought-after subspecialty fellowship programs. The program consistently places several residents every year into southwest Michigan, and many alumni remain in the community, strongly supporting the teaching program. The Department also has direct oversight of the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program jointly with the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
