Musculoskeletal Health Specialist (Research)

About the Position:

Position Title: Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Science Researcher

The DOD-VA Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) is seeking an experienced researcher to join the team at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Fort Bragg, NC. The EACE conducts research studies aimed at improving the function and quality of life for patients with traumatic extremity injuries, including limb loss. Such research is intended to span the continuum from screening, prevention to initial management, treatment - as well as encompass both operative and non-operative (or post-operative) approaches - and therefore ultimately enhance near-term military medical readiness and long-term quality of life.

The candidate filling this role will:
  • Serves as a team member with responsibility for formulating and executing a systematic research plan to address identified and emerging clinical gap areas within EACE's extremity trauma research portfolio, with particular emphasis on musculoskeletal health within a prolonged field care environment.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of research projects to address identified clinical gaps particularly research emphasizing musculoskeletal health within a prolonged field care environment.
  • Provides technical advice/guidance to research team members on new scientific advances, procedures and concepts.
  • Uses the findings of these specialized studies to make recommendations for the advancement of clinical care for affected patients.

Travel is required.

Responsibilities

Applied Knowledge & Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of musculoskeletal health and extremity injuries
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in directing scientific biomedical research from the most basic to applied, clinical outcomes-oriented efforts
  • Demonstrated success in attracting and managing funding support
  • Demonstrated ability to publish findings in scientific journals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate complex issues in a scientifically sound and understandable way


Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of post-doctoral experience in research design, implementation and publication with progressive responsibility and career advancement
  • Background in one or more of the following is preferred: physiology, orthopedics or rehabilitation sciences, clinical research, or biomechanics


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate Degree in a health science discipline
  • US Citizenship Required
  • 5+ years of experience with scientific disciplines developing strategies in research studies and scientific projects.
  • Must possess a track record of publication in scientific peer-reviewed journals as evidenced by publication listing on resume
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English
