Basic Function Statement:

Global Oncology is a quickly evolving academic discipline and we expect the biology and management of cancer to vary dramatically in different parts of the world. This new position will provide substantial protected time for a junior faculty member to establish themselves in an area of global hematology-oncology research. At the direction of the Medical Oncology or Hematology Section Chiefs, the person who fills this position will also provide care to patients with malignancy, in a subspecialty that will be determined based on the applicant's area of expertise and the clinical needs of Norris Cotton Cancer Center. We expect this position to participate actively in the DH clinical research program through enrollments on clinical trials and participation in conferences and tumor boards.

Clinical Responsibilities (Outpatient):
  • Provides clinical excellence and coordination of care to hematology-oncology patients at NCCC Lebanon.
  • Participates in subspecialty and interdisciplinary clinics.
  • Participates in Tumor Boards.
  • Engages in quality and patient safety improvement initiatives.
  • Meet RVU Benchmark as established by DH per specialty based on a clinical FTE of 0.2.

Clinical Responsibilities (Inpatient):
  • Participates in inpatient unit oncology consults in Lebanon, 2 weeks per year, as an active teacher and supervisor of the Hematology/Oncology fellow who is also on the consult service.
  • Communicate in an efficient manner with the hospitalists and subspecialists in order to offer best clinical care.
  • Write or cosign inpatient consult notes.

Research Responsibilities:
  • Participate fully in clinical research activities of NCCC.
  • Accrual of patients to new and/or on-going investigator-initiated, cooperative group and/or industry-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Contributes to clinical research activities as part of patient care.
  • Develops global-oncology relevant research initiatives, in the form of either lab-based research, health care delivery research or global clinical trials.
  • Contributes to international global oncology research and education conferences and symposia.
  • Represent and engage Dartmouth on the international global oncology research front with support from the Cancer Center to host visiting faculty observerships or presentations.
  • Acquire research funding within three years to support future research FTE

Teaching:
  • Participate in educating medical staff on a regular basis by answering their questions and offering teaching materials.
  • Teach medical students, interns, residents and fellows on the NCCC Lebanon campus.
  • Participate in teaching activities within the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program.
  • Participate in the core lecture series for Hematology/ Oncology Fellows.
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching as assessed by written evaluations of students, residents, fellows in the Geisel School of Medicine and the Sections of Hematology and Oncology.
  • Develop global oncology education programs for residents and fellows across the disciplines.

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Hematology-Oncology and conferences, NCCC Grand Rounds and Dept. of Medicine Grand Rounds on the Lebanon campus.
  • Participate in Hematology and Oncology Section and/or The Dartmouth Institute Committees.
  • Participate in Clinical Oncology Group and/or the Dartmouth Institute meetings and projects.

Qualifications
  • Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible
  • Must obtain and maintain a medical license in the State of NH

    • 2-3-page Research Statement outlining hypothesis and specific aims for upcoming grant application (to be submitted within 3 years of taking this position) and frame of research program.
