The incoming Chief must be passionate about building collaborative research programs of excellence, mentoring outstanding junior faculty, and continuing to advance cardiovascular medicine on the national/international stage. There is opportunity to build clinical programs, most especially in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, advanced heart failure, and electrophysiology.

Over the last 10 years, UMMS has advanced to 18th nationally in NIH funding in the basic sciences and is now one of the nation's top 50 medical schools in funding for clinical studies. The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is one of the 16 divisions of the Department of Medicine and is the most extensive service line of the Heart and Vascular Center of Excellence. The core mission of the Cardiovascular Medicine Division is to provide the highest standard of cardiovascular clinic care to the community, while also promoting scientific discovery and training for the next generation of leaders in Cardiovascular Medicine.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader with demonstrated ability to set a vision, effectively inspire, manage, and mentor. In addition, the successful candidate will have an actively funded research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research, strong academic credentials from institutions of high repute, appropriate board certification in cardiology, and a distinguished record across all missions. Candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD and possess credentials sufficient for appointment as Professor at UMMS and UMMHC.
