Peoria, Illinois

Enjoy big-city amenities with a small-town feel in Peoria. Located halfway between Chicago and St. Louis in the heart of the state, a first glimpse of the city includes a scenic skyline the follows the banks of the Illinois River. Along this vibrant riverfront you can enjoy a concert, take in one of the city's many festivals, grab a bite to eat, or take a stroll up and down Peoria's breathtaking trails. Beyond the riverfront, you’ll discover shopping, scenic drives like the famous Grandview, farm-to-table cuisine and more. Still looking for something to do? Head to a minor-league baseball (Peoria Chiefs) or hockey (Peoria Rivermen) game, attend a nationally-touring concert or musical or enjoy a show from the ballet or symphony.

There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation, as well. Play a round at one of Peoria's many golf courses, explore the zoo, take in a variety of native Illinois animals like buffalo and elk roaming at Wildlife Prairie Park, or simply explore miles of Peoria’s parks and hiking and biking trails. Luthy Botanical Gardens is home to beautiful themed gardens, educational programming, and local events. If you prefer to be indoors, check out the Caterpillar Visitor Center, which pays tribute to this the Fortune 500 company's history, view one of the many exhibits at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, gaze at the stars in the museum Planetarium, or watch a movie in the all-digital Giant Screen theater.

“Will it play in Peoria?” This famous question originated during Peoria's exciting vaudeville days during the 1920s. After a new live act or stage show was produced, it was soon booked into a Peoria theater to test audience reaction to the show. Peoria was viewed as the "typical" American town, if a show could achieve the approval of the Peoria audience, it would be successful anywhere in the country. To "play in Peoria" is not only an old term from vaudeville, but also a catch phrase used today to measure the thoughts and habits of the typical American.

In the past 80 years, Peoria has garnered the "All-American City" award four times. With its excellent public and private schools, a mid-sized private university (Bradley University), the vast array of activities and amenities available, and its low cost of living, Peoria is an outstanding place to live and work. Will you “play in Peoria?”
