Job Summary

The Division of Digestive and Liver Health at Denver Health & Hospital is seeking a Gastroenterologist to join our well-established hospital employed practice. The ideal candidate will enjoy providing high quality clinical care to our patients, has interest in training future Gastroenterologists, and will feel supported to pursue scholarly activity. The DH Gastroenterology division is part of a fully integrated network of eight community health centers and a Level I 525-licensed bed hospital with a mission of providing access to quality health care for all citizens of Denver regardless of ability to pay. As Colorado’s primary safety net institution, DH has provided billions of dollars in uncompensated care. Denver Health is formally affiliated with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine where all faculty have full-time academic appointments

Denver Health delivers care to a diverse patient population. Denver Health provides healthcare services to over 210,000 unique patients, 60% of which are from diverse and varied backgrounds. The patients served by the GI Division speak over 23 different languages, most commonly Spanish. Denver Health provides care for a large refugee population and is a center of excellence for the LGBTQ+ population.

The Division of Digestive and Liver Health delivers an integrated service model and offers seamless transitions between the outpatient sites and the hospital. The GI lab and clinic facilities underwent a complete renovation in the past year and the lab includes state-of-the-art equipment. The outpatient provider team is comprised of Gastroenterologists/Hepatologists Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers, who work collaboratively to deliver the appropriate care for each patient. Physicians in the Division of Digestive and Liver Health are available for consultation and continuing care for all common and complex digestive and liver disorders as well as a broad spectrum of preventative, consultative, diagnostic, and interventional endoscopic services. 

The Digestive and Liver Health Service performs approximately 4,500 procedures annually, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopies. The Division also provides diagnostics and interventional procedures such as capsule endoscopy as well as advanced biliary and pancreatic endoscopy.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

Essential: Doctorate. Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent. Equivalent training for those Physicians who are not U.S. residency trained. New finishing GI fellows generally are not expected to be Board Certified but should be Board Certified within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the office of Medical Administration.

Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. Performs in a tactful and professional manner. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Credentials:

Essential: MD, ACLS, BLS/CPR

Medical license to practice in State of Colorado. All physicians must be board certified within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the office of Medical Administration. BLS/CPR. ACLS, PALS, or NRP as outlined in HR Principles and Practices #2-110 Appendix, Maintaining Licensures, Certifications, and Registrations. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
