The Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University Health System is seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia with an anticipated start date of January, 2021.

The successful candidate must be an Associate Professor or Professor, have a strong academic background and a history of significant leadership experience. The candidate must hold an MD degree and be board certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology.

The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Duke is a model for children's care, and education and research excellence in a children's hospital within a hospital system. Our 12 pediatric anesthesia faculty and 2 fellows take care of over 8,000 children having procedures in all pediatric surgical specialties including solid organ transplant as well as covering an ambulatory care center, eye center and radiology. Duke was one of the first pediatric centers verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 center for optimization of care for children and was re-verified in 2019. In addition to exemplary clinical care and nationally recognized training programs, the Division promotes the development of faculty educators, and innovative research to improve outcomes by enhancing quality and safety. Specifically, the Division's areas of research interests include pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of anesthetic and pain agents in children, hemostasis strategies in pediatric cardiac patients, large database studies, and participation in many multicenter studies.

The Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology has the responsibility of ensuring the highest standards of clinical care in all children having anesthesia or sedation within the primary Duke system. The management of pediatric patients as they go through their perioperative environment and their enforcement and/or development of appropriate policies and procedures through multidisciplinary teams is a direct responsibility of the Chief. The Chief will also be expected to have extramural research funding or the demonstrated potential for such, and/or the ability to recruit or promote faculty who have successful research endeavors. Furthermore, the Chief will support the educational mission of trainees including residents and fellows and work collaboratively with the Program Directors and departmental education leadership to ensure top quality learning experiences in pediatric anesthesia.

Above all, the Chief will be of the highest character and exemplify professionalism to promote a culture of inclusivity and excellence in all endeavors. This position works closely with Departmental leadership in Anesthesiology and holds a position on the Departmental Executive Team. The Chief also holds leadership roles within the Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics.

Interested applicants should apply by October 30, 2020 and include contact information for 3 references (preferably prior/present Chairman/Chiefs who can attest to your body of work) must be included for direct discussion.
