Danbury Hospital, now part of Nuvance Health, is seeking an experienced full-time Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant for our long established CTPA program at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut. We are located about 60 miles northeast of New York City in suburban Fairfield County and near the border of Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York.

The department has two cardiothoracic surgeons and four cardiothoracic PAs. Our highly experienced CTPA team provides 24/7 coverage, including OR assist, inpatient consults, pre and post-op rounding, and outpatient. This is a seasoned team with a growing case volume that includes traditional open heart, CABG, valve, robotics, MIS, and TAVR.

The ideal candidate will be a board certified physician assistant and have at least three years of Cardiothoracic specific experience, including OR assist. The position is a full-time variable schedule including days/overnights/weekends/holidays. Shift times are 7a-6p and 5p-7a. This is an employed position with Nuvance Health Medical Practice.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assists the surgeon with major cardiac surgery operations and is directly responsible for the care of critically ill cardiac and surgical patients.
  • Directly acts in the operating room during the performance of technical cardiac surgical procedures.
  • Provides the highest level of pre and post-operative care under the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Assists the surgeon in the operating room, acting as first or second assistant during various phases of the procedure.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree and graduate of an approved Physician Assistant (PA) school
  • CT State Physician Assistant license, State of CT Controlled Substance Registration, and Federal DEA
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • Must maintain 50 CMEs over two years
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills
  • At least three years of Cardiothoracic specific experience, including OR assist
