Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a Chair to lead its Division of Otolaryngology. Candidates should have excellent management and interpersonal skills that will allow them to lead, grow, and develop a division of highly skilled clinicians, researchers, and support staff, along with a continued interest in the practice and advancement of Otolaryngology.
Role of the Division Chair
As a physician leader in a multispecialty group practice, the Chair of the Division of Otolaryngology works with other leaders to ensure that Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) provides outstanding medical care to its patients while serving as a resource for healthcare excellence for the wider community. The Chair leads by example, inspires trust with high emotional intelligence, promotes collegial dialogue, and collaborates in planning and problem solving in an environment that values diversity and empowers all colleagues to develop their talents and do their best work.
The Chair’s scope of responsibility includes physician recruitment and career development, establishment and management of individual physician and divisional performance, development of new initiatives, development and oversight of process improvement plans, resource allocation within the division, and oversight of day-to-day divisional operations.
The Chair contributes clinical expertise in ongoing collaboration with all departments and divisions to achieve goals in clinical practice, research, education, and administration. The Chair collaborates with the Vice President/Executive Director in the development and execution of the division’s strategic vision and day-to-day operations.
This position has specific duties that impact the organization, including working with staff from across the system on diversity-related planning and responsibilities that are specific to the development and implementation of the BILH's ongoing diversity initiatives and programs.
The Lahey Health integrated delivery system consists of over 1,200 clinicians providing care throughout Lahey Health’s network of acute care hospitals, ambulatory centers, physician practice sites, behavioral health facilities, long-term care facilities, home health organizations, and care management programs. In March 2019, Lahey Health merged with four other local hospital organizations (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New England Baptist, Mount Auburn, and Anna Jaques Hospitals) to form Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). BILH currently employs 35,000 individuals making it the second largest employer in the state of Massachusetts and consists of over 200 care locations including 13 hospitals with over 2400 beds and five ambulatory surgery centers. Approximately 4,300 physicians are associated with BILH including 840 primary care physicians managing 1.3 million patients.
LHMC, a 317-bed tertiary care facility, outpatient clinic, and Level I trauma center located in Burlington, MA is a physician-led, multi-disciplinary group practice of 500 physicians. We maintain several accredited residency and fellowship programs and are an academic affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine. Conveniently located, Burlington, Massachusetts is 17 miles north of Boston and a short drive to the mountains, lakes, and seaside of New England as well as cultural opportunities of Boston.
