The Medical Director of Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Manchester, Nashua & Concord will have oversight and leadership of Hematology, Oncology care at the three facilities. It is an expectation that this position will provide direct patient care approximately 85% of the time. Administrative responsibilities are in the areas of leadership, quality and patient safety, policy development, regulatory compliance, and communication with key constituencies. The position is accountable for all aspects of a comprehensive cancer program to include direct care, education, and end-of-life services.

The Medical Director works collaboratively with the NCCC Senior Director, and reports directly to the Medical Oncology Section Chief. The position follows and is responsible to the leadership of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center of Dartmouth Hitchcock Health (DHH).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership
  • Provide clinical oversight to ensure efficient and effective clinical operations are achieved and maintained at NCCC Manchester, Nashua and Concord in collaboration with the Senior Director and NCCC Manchester/Nashua leadership
  • Support the development of new programs identified in strategic planning
  • Develop goals that are in line with CMC's and DHH's strategies
  • Assure compliance with national accreditations for DH-H and NCCC (JCO, CoC)
  • Assume the Oncology physician role for CMC's Cancer Committee
  • Advocate for and demonstrate success in enrolling patients on cancer clinical trials and assist in the development of an expanded clinical research program
  • Participate in the optimization of the clinical information systems to improve patient safety and enhance care delivery
  • Work collaboratively with the other Departments, Chairs and Section Chiefs of CMC and D-H to improve care delivery across the organizations
  • Actively participate in monthly NCCC Manchester/Nashua Leadership Meetings, monthly Hem and Med. onc faculty meetings, and DH Manchester/DH Nashua provider meetings.

  • Operations
  • Together with NCCC Manchester/Nashua leadership evaluate staffing models and re-configure as needed to ensure delivery of efficient, high quality care
  • Evaluate scheduling needs and oversee provider scheduling to ensure optimal medical coverage and access
  • Lead provider recruitment activities
  • Participate in budgeting and financial planning activities

  • Professional Performance Management
  • Work with the Medical Oncology Section Chief and Administrative Leaders in receiving, investigating and settling grievances, conflict resolution, or questions of policy raised by providers or interfacing departments/personnel
  • Work with the Oncology medical staff around scheduled Provider Performance evaluations
  • Provide guidance and explanation to the DHH System Credentials Committee regarding the professional qualifications and expectations as well as competency verification of the NCCC providers

  • Quality, Safety, and Value
  • Collaborate with Director of NCCC Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and engage providers in QA and QI programs for Manchester, Nashua and Concord.
  • Collaborate in defining and monitoring performance indicators for quality, patient safety, and patient experience in conjunction with Clinical Performance Improvement Committee and the Department of Quality and Patient Safety
  • Reinforce Culture of Safety and High Reliability principles, and support the development of standardized policies for safety and risk mitigation
  • Act as a champion for evidence-based clinical practice
  • In collaboration with the NCCC Manchester/Nashua Leadership team, provide oversight of Patient Experience and participate in the redesign of care delivery processes to create optimal patient experience

  • Education and Community Relations
  • Represent NCCC at FNCCC community fundraising opportunities, on local boards and in community events
  • Participate in Grand Rounds/CME offerings in the Manchester, Nashua and Concord community hospitals in an effort to provide educational information to referring physicians and to build relationships
  • Participate in and facilitate interactions to further programmatic development with other Clinical Directors/Medical Directors/Section Chiefs across all NCCC Campuses

  • Minimum Qualifications
      • At least five years of experience with a record of clinical accomplishment in an organization of comparable size/scope
      • Demonstrated leadership skills and interest/experience in community engagement
      • Ability to work as a partner with administrative team
      • Eligible for a State of New Hampshire medical license
    • Board certified in either Hematology and/or Medical Oncology
