The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Department of Neurosurgery is seeking to recruit a spine focused Academic Neurosurgeon to join our rapidly growing spine practice. This is a nontenure-track faculty appointment with extensive opportunities for education and research.

The Department of Neurosurgery at UTMB: The UTMB Neurosurgery Program covers the Jennie Sealy Hospital, the UTMB Health Clear Lake Campus Hospital, and the UTMB Health League City Campus Hospital. Our faculty specializes in the surgical treatment of adults and children with neurological diseases. Our programs include cerebrovascular, spine, pediatrics, functional/epilepsy, and stereotactic radiosurgery. In addition to clinical excellence and research, we are also committed to post-graduate medical training and undergraduate medical education.

Neurosurgical Spine Opportunity: This Spine Neurosurgeon would be primarily focused at the newly opened UTMB Clear Lake Campus in Webster, Texas, a highly desirable suburb located just south of the Houston metro area. The Clear Lake Campus has invested heavily in their spine program, with the acquisition of state-of-the-art neurosurgical equipment. This includes spinal and cranial neuronavigation equipment, a new operating microscope, as well and other new surgical equipment, all purchased within the last year. First-year clinical volume is expected to be at least 150-200 cases, with the possibility of 250-300+ cases when fully established.

Candidate Requirements: The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated individual interested in both teaching residents as well as developing a robust clinical practice focused primarily on spine surgery. A spine fellowship is not mandatory but would be a plus. An MD degree, Board certification or Board eligibility by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and the ability to obtain a Texas state board medical license is also required.

Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience but includes a very generous salary guarantee, RVU bonus opportunities, superior full benefits program, an impressive retirement program, and relocation expenses.
