Nuvance Health is seeking a Chair of Surgery at Danbury Hospital in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be board certified in general surgery with subspecialty fellowship training and at least 8-10 years of post-fellowship experience and 5 years in a leadership role. This is an excellent leadership opportunity to join a busy and growing program that is part of a larger 7-hospital network. Danbury, Connecticut is located about 60 miles northeast of New York City and near the border of Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York State.

The Chair of Surgery will report to the Network Chair of Surgery and the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) of Danbury and New Milford Hospitals. The Chair of Surgery provides clinical and strategic leadership for all components of the Department at both Danbury and New Milford Hospital campuses and ensures the highest standard of excellence in the care and safety of all surgical patients. The Chair also provides supervision and direction of the day to day operations of the department and the operating rooms. He/she will establish performance targets for the areas of responsibility and manage the performance of the staff in meeting those targets. We have a free-standing 6-year general surgical residency which includes a year of research. Teaching medical students and residents is an important part of the program.

Major Accountabilities:

• Provide leadership to all employed and independent surgeons on the medical staffs of Danbury Hospital/New Milford Hospitals.
• Maintain clinical activity to have a strong working knowledge of surgical advances, an understanding of the nuances of performing surgery at Nuvance Health facilities, and an affinity with all surgical staff, including trainees.
• Develop engagement and alignment among all members of the Department, other clinical departments, the community, and Nuvance Health, Nuvance Health Medical Practice and Hospital administration to provide excellent service for surgical patients. 
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, programs, protocols, and services. Recommend potential means of growth and development of new and existing services.
• Lead appropriate Department business meetings and provide leadership at Medical Executive Committee meetings, and Network administrative, clinical, and academic meetings.
• Oversee all credentialing, FPPEs, and OPPEs, and all requests for new or additional privileges, in the Department at Danbury and New Milford Hospitals.
• Responsible for maintaining excellent quality and safety outcomes in the Department, ensuring that surgical care is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered.
• Oversee the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Department.
• Serve as Chair of the OR Committee at Danbury Hospital.
• Promote research and innovation in the Department.
• Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Network Chair of Surgery and VPMA.

Danbury Hospital has 371 beds and is a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 70,000 ED visits per year.
