North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) seeks a qualified MD or MD, PhD physician, to serve as the full-time Associate Director for laboratory services at NSUH, inclusive of both Laboratory Medicine and Anatomic Pathology. With 783 total staffed beds and approximately 46,000 total discharges per year, NSUH is a flagship hospital of Northwell Health, with special­ized centers of excellence supporting cardiothoracic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, renal, heart, liver, and stem cell transplantation, orthopaedic surgery, and a level 1 trauma center. NSUH is named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for cardiac surgery (2017-2020) and Neurology/Neurosurgery (2020-2021), and by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons as one of the two highest performing cardiothoracic surgical programs in the U.S. and Canada. As a teaching hospital for the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, it provides a wide range of specialty and sub-specialty residency programs, postgraduate training programs, and clinical fellowships to educate the clinicians of the future.

This individual will provide visible and accessible leadership, acting as a liaison with laboratory senior leadership and administrative staff, referring clinicians, and hospital and medical leadership. Responsibilities will also include helping to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements of CAP, CLIA, and the State of New York Department of Health; providing leadership for and management of the technologist workforce; rigorous attention to safety and quality management programming; and coordination with Laboratory Information Services. This individual will also work with the laboratory leadership and management of the Northwell Health Laboratory Service Line, as part of the management of integrated laboratory services across the breadth of the 23-hospital health system.

This individual will be a faculty member of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, with academic rank in accordance with qualifications. This individual will be expected to support the education of physicians-in-training at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and education of other medical professionals including technologists, supervisors, and managers. Direct reporting will be to the Director of North Shore University Hospital Clinical Laboratories. 

Required qualifications include American Board of Pathology board certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) or in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP); with subspecialty CP training, data science skills or substantive experience in leadership of a complex tertiary- or quaternary care hospital laboratory preferred. The individual will be expected to have, or successfully obtain, a New York State license to practice medicine and to hold or be eligible for the appropriate New York State Certificates of Qualification. An academic background with demonstrated academic accomplishments is desirable.

Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
