Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is seeking a Chief of General Surgery. Mount Auburn Hospital was found in 1886 as the first hospital in Cambridge. With 217 licensed beds, in all private rooms, the hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission, member of the American Hospital Association Council on Teaching Hospitals, and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Mount Auburn’s mission is to expand access to outstanding care, and advance the science and practice of medicine through education and research.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished clinician who is respected for his/her clinical and educational skills. Candidates must have an MD Degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine, completion of Residency with Board Certification, possess outstanding communication and management skills, strong ability to work collaboratively with medical staff and hospital management, and have demonstrated evidence of leading initiatives and program development. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School. The position involves teaching and mentoring surgical residents from Harvard Medical School.

Physicians in the Division of General Surgery perform a full range of adult surgical procedures. Our physicians have significant experience in treating a wide range of procedures including, but not limited to, gallbladder disease, appendiceal disease, hernia repair, colorectal disease, surgery of the stomach, small bowel and spleen, pancreatitis, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, bile duct, colorectal liver metastases, gallbladder cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The General Surgery Division incudes vascular surgeons who manage procedures including aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular treatments -- venous and arterial, hemodialysis access, and lower extremity arterial and venous insufficiency. The Division also includes the Hoffman Breast Center, oversees surgical endocrinology as well as a bariatric surgery program.

The Chief shall supervise the clinical conduct of physicians and surgical physician assistants, use his/her best efforts to ensure that the established programs, policies, and regulations, including those related to education, are carried out within his/her division. The Chief shall continuously review the professional performance of all practitioners with clinical privileges in their division and ensure that continuous coverage is available to the emergency room and clinics by staff members.

The Chief will develop plans to grow and expand the overall volume and range of quality-focused service line offerings and assure clinical care quality and patient experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
