The University of Michigan’s Department of Internal Medicine invites applications for the position of Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Candidates must possess an MD or equivalent degree at a minimum.

The division chief is responsible for the academic, clinical, educational, and administrative initiatives of the division. Candidates should have established credentials as an administrator and have proven leadership expertise. Candidates should have demonstrated scholarly distinction appropriate for a tenure track appointment at the Associate Professor/Professor level. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee a robust health services, clinical research, and basic research operation, including creating additional collaborative research opportunities that may be funded by federal and non-federal grants
  • Oversee a comprehensive gastroenterology and hepatology clinical operation, including endoscopic procedures and several other subspecialty clinical programs
  • Oversee a highly ranked gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship training program, as well as enhance educational opportunities for medical students and residents within the division
  • Recruit and develop the best and the brightest faculty to enhance and grow the Division’s national reputation, currently ranked 8th by US News and World Report

The division chief is paired with a division administrator that fully supports the administrative needs of the division. The division chief is expected to develop a strong and effective working relationship with the administrator to support the strategic direction of the division.
