Chair, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center

Burlington, MA

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a Chair to lead its Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. Candidates should have excellent management and interpersonal skills that will allow them to lead, grow, and develop a division of highly skilled clinicians, researchers, and support staff, along with a continued interest in the practice and advancement of hematology and medical oncology.

This position has specific duties that impact the organization, including working with staff from across the system on diversity related planning and responsibilities that are specific to the development and implementation of the BILH's ongoing diversity initiatives and programs.

The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at LHMC is comprised of 16 senior staff physicians, 10 advanced practice professionals, and six patient navigators who provide inpatient services at LHMC and outpatient services at LHMC, Lahey Medical Center Peabody, Parkland Medical Center, Derry New Hampshire, and Lahey Center for Oncology and Hematology, Salem, New Hampshire.

The responsibilities of the Chair include the direction and administration of the professional, operational, education, and research programs of the Division. The Chair is responsible for physician recruitment and professional development, achievement of divisional quality, financial, and patient satisfaction goals, development of new strategic initiatives, effective management of resource allocation within the division, and optimization of divisional operations. Candidates should have an established record of achievement in hematology or medical oncology. Candidates should be prepared to lead the division in a growing health system while ensuring the delivery of excellent clinical care in partnership with advanced practice providers, rotating fellows from Tufts Medical Center, residents and medical students, as well as fostering research. The division is actively involved in research both at the local, institutional and national level. In 2019 there were 1,306 subjects enrolled in cancer related studies. Of those 240 subjects participated in therapeutic, prevention, or quality of life protocols. Lahey is a main member of both SWOG and NRG.

Applicants must be board certified in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology. A strong academic background that warrants or has led to appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor is required. Additionally, strong medical operational and management expertise as well as leadership training is desired.

The Lahey Health integrated delivery system consists of over 1,200 clinicians providing care throughout Lahey Health’s network of acute care hospitals, ambulatory centers, physician practice sites, behavioral health facilities, long-term care facilities, home health organizations, and care management programs. In March 2019, Lahey Health merged with four other local hospital organizations (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New England Baptist, Mount Auburn, and Anna Jaques Hospitals) to form Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). BILH currently employs 35,000 individuals making it the second largest employer in the State of Massachusetts and consists of over 200 care locations including 13 hospitals with over 2400 beds and five ambulatory surgery centers. Approximately 4,300 physicians are associated with BILH including 840 primary care physicians managing 1.3 million patients.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, a 317-bed tertiary care facility, outpatient clinic, and Level I trauma center located in Burlington, MA. is a physician-led, multi-disciplinary group practice of 500 physicians. We maintain several accredited residency and fellowship programs and are an academic affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine. Conveniently located, Burlington, Massachusetts is 17 miles north of Boston and a short drive to the mountains, lakes, and seaside of New England as well as cultural opportunities of Boston.

Qualified applicants should send a cover letter and curriculum vitae to Rich Crosby, Physician Recruitment (richard.crosby@lahey.org).
