The Australian Government is proud to support the establishment of the South Australian Immunogenomics Cancer Institute. In partnership with the University of Adelaide and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), the Institute will be the first of its kind in the State, ultimately becoming an integral member of the Australian national cancer research network.

The Federal Minister for Health, the Honourable Greg Hunt, announced in August 2019 the Government’s investment of $80 million to develop this world class translational cancer research institute.

Plans for the Institute are ambitious. Our aim is to create a focal point for co-ordinated and collaborative biomedical research, and to build world-class capacity and capability in Adelaide that will maximise cancer diagnosis, treatment, control, and cure.

The focus will be on cancer research and clinical trials, with a particularl emphasis on new cutting-edge technologies in immunotherapy and genomics, leading to better treatments and outcomes for cancer patients.

The Institute will be physically situated at the University of Adelaide facilities within Adelaide BioMed City, one of the largest health and life sciences precincts for research, education, and clinical care in the Southern Hemisphere.

The inaugural Director will put in place the foundations for long-term success of the Institute. Working closely with the Advisory Board, the Director will develop and implement a robust strategic plan, building a strong and sustainable cancer research institute. This is a rare opportunity to build a world-class institution from the ground up, with the full support of the University, CALHN, and the Australian Government.

In appointing the Director, we seek an outstanding leader who is committed to creating a better future for people and who can demonstrate their significant achievements in leading other dynamic and complex organisational units. The position is ideally suited to an accomplished researcher who is motivated to drive excellence, innovation, and sustainability. The Director will advocate for and represent the Institute at the national and international level, working across all cancer themes, partners, and key stakeholders and networks.
