Job Details

Saint Vincent Hospital (SVH) in Worcester, MA has an immediate opening for a Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join an established, well-respected program in Central Massachusetts. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-trained Surgeon with excellent technical skills, a devotion to perioperative care, an affable personality, and an interest in a strong team-oriented approach to patient management. The surgical team consists of a senior Cardiac Surgeon and 6 PAs and NPs, nearly all of whom are cross-trained in preoperative care, intraoperative vein harvesting and first assisting, ICU and floor care, and office coverage. The advanced practice provider pool has seen long-term stability due to the friendly, patient-oriented atmosphere present at the hospital and a strong team-bonding. The team also includes a full complement of perfusionists and cardiac anesthesiologists as well as an excellent operating room staff. Cardiac surgery patients are covered post-operatively in the ICU by the surgeon and mid-level providers, with no coverage by intensivists. A full range of adult cardiac procedures is performed at SVH, with the exception of destination VADs and transplants. The SVH team enjoys an excellent rapport with several major tertiary centers in Boston for extremely high risk cases.

SVH has four cardiac catheterization laboratories, all recently upgraded with the latest technology. Two of them are used as hybrid cath labs and a new larger hybrid operating room will open within the next year. The cardiology team is very strong at SVH, and includes experienced interventionalists and electrophysiologists. There are general cardiology and interventional cardiology fellows at SVH, but there is no surgical resident or fellow involvement in the cardiac surgery program.

The Advanced Structural and Valvular Heart disease program is actively supported by Cardiac Surgery. The program has averaged about 120 TAVRs and 25 Mitraclip procedures annually over the past two years and a surgeon participates in all of these procedures.

While this position is primarily cardiac in nature, recent experience in and willingness to cover thoracic surgical call on weekends, would be very beneficial.

This is a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to potentially assume leadership of the program when the senior cardiac surgeon retires in the next few years.

The applicant would join the Saint Vincent Medical Group and be employed by Tenet Physician Resources. This is a multidisciplinary group with a large PCP referral base. Surgical cases also originate from Reliant Medical Group and several independent cardiologists.

  • This position offers competitive compensation and benefits package
  • Family-oriented community with great schools
  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance
  • CME allowance
  • Close proximity to big city amenities in Boston

Saint Vincent Hospital is a full-service 283 bed hospital with a 125-year tradition of providing quality care to residents of Worcester and Central Massachusetts. Its cardiac surgical results have been ranked among the best in Massachusetts for the past decade. SVH has also been recognized as one of the nation's top cardiovascular hospitals by Thomson Reuters.
