Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is seeking a Pediatric heart failure and transplantation physician. Applicants should have formal 4th year fellowship training in Pediatric heart failure, cardiomyopathy, transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support and must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Cardiology. Those with interest in pulmonary hypertension medicine are highly encouraged to apply as well. Current trainees are welcome to apply.

Loma Linda University is world renown in the field of Pediatric heart transplant medicine, having performed the most pediatric heart transplants of any U.S. center to date, including over 350 infants and the only xenotransplant (Baby “Fae”). The new faculty member will join the team as a junior transplant Cardiologist. The Pediatric Heart Failure, Transplantation, and Pulmonary hypertension team (PHFAT) currently consists of two Pediatric transplant cardiologist (Drs. Matthew Bock and Peter Chau), one transplant Pediatrician (Dr. Richard Chinnock) with over 30 years of experience in transplant medicine, and a well-oiled transplant team (two transplant nurse coordinators, social worker, pharmacist, dietician, financial coordinator, and administrative assistants). Currently, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is transplanting approximately 10-12 pediatric hearts and placing 2-4 ventricular assist devices per year. Our team participates in several multidisciplinary specialty clinics, including twice weekly heart transplant clinics, weekly pulmonary hypertension clinics, and monthly CHF and joint neuromuscular disease (Duchenne) clinics. Our center participates in several multi-center research studies, including the PANORAMA-HF and TEAMMATE Trials, as well as participation in multiple research/collaborative databases (UNOS, PHTS, ACTION, STS, PC4).

The position also includes a faculty position with the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and basic Pediatric Cardiology duties, including weekly outpatient cardiology clinics, call and inpatient consultation service requirements. Experience interpreting and reporting transthoracic echocardiograms is also required. The current division consists of four general pediatric cardiologists, one echocardiography specialist, two interventional cardiologists, one electrophysiologist, and two heart failure/transplant/pulmonary hypertension cardiologists with the intention to hire several others in the next year. Two pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons run a successful congenital heart surgery program and the Leonard L. Bailey Pediatric Cardiac ICU consists of 14 beds, staffed by experienced nurses and a team of ICU specialists, with plans for significant expansion in the upcoming years.
