Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Director of Sports Medicine Research. The Director of Sports Medicine Research is ultimately responsible for the ongoing robust clinical research within the Center for Sports Medicine. This include participation in already funded studies including NIH and Arthritis foundation and standard of care capture of clinical outcomes. In addition, they should foster collaborations with the Musculoskeletal Research Center (MSRC) to facilitate both basic and translational research opportunities. The primary role of this position will be to expand the impact and funding of clinical sports medicine research and when synergies develop collaborations with MSRC a center within Lerner Research Institute (LRI). Future independent funding as a principal investigator (PI) is expected for this role.

The Director will be charged with helping to promote the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine mission; to advance the health, treatment, and performance of active individuals through the application of scientific methods and discoveries to improve clinical care and outcomes. The role will include research and administrative duties. The Director will be expected to serve as a mentor to residents, fellows and junior faculty interested in academic medicine. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University will be available and encouraged.

The Director of Sports Medicine Research reports to the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition, the Director of Sports Medicine Research will have an associated reporting relationship to the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute Vice Chair for Research.

An ideal candidate will be an MD/DO, eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio. Minimum of 5 years in academic clinical practice in the field of Sports Medicine is preferred. Must possess certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. An established record of success in research (as defined by external grant support and/or role as PI or site PI on a major multicenter grant) or requisite training and passion to pursue success in funded programmatic research in sports medicine will define a strong candidate for this role.
