Burlington, VT -- The Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine (LCOM) at the University of Vermont (UVM), seeks an outstanding physician with a record of significant contributions in academic anesthesiology to serve as the next Chair of Anesthesiology. The new Chair will join the College and University at an exciting time under the leadership of President Suresh Garimella, PhD and Richard L. Page, MD, Dean, Larner College of Medicine.

The LCOM is part of the only tertiary/quaternary academic medical center in Vermont, the University of Vermont Medical Center. Together, they offer state-of-the-art clinical, research, and educational facilities. The UVM Health Network, a six-hospital network established in 2011, serves all of Vermont and the northern New York region. The LCOM, the nation's seventh oldest medical school, is widely recognized for innovation in education and research. The University campus, including the College and the Medical Center, is located on the shores of Lake Champlain between the Adirondack and Green Mountains in Burlington, Vermont, a vibrant community with year-round recreational opportunities that is frequently cited as one of the most livable cities in America.

The Department of Anesthesiology at UVM and The University of Vermont Medical Center has a long tradition of commitment to providing excellent, state-of-the-art patient care, education and opportunities for research. The department trains residents and teaches medical students attending the UVM College of Medicine. The faculty members serve in national leadership positions for clinical care, research, and teaching.

Reporting to the Dean, Larner College of Medicine, the ideal candidate will be a nationally-recognized physician leader and scholar in anesthesiology, with a proven commitment to clinical care, medical education, training, and research. They will have the knowledge and ability to effectively lead physicians and other health professionals, researchers, and educators while embracing the values of quality and financial sustainability.

The candidate will be a board certified clinician who brings a strong track record of leadership and mentoring faculty at all stages of career development along with a demonstrated understanding of sponsored research and a desire to expand the research portfolio of the department. Candidates must have the leadership experience required to oversee a busy clinical department across the UVM network. Integrity, intellect, the ability to work collaboratively with numerous stakeholders, and a vision of how a modern academic department of anesthesiology thrives in an age of health reform are essential.

Qualified candidates must hold an MD or equivalent medical degree; be board certified in Anesthesiology and eligible for medical licensure in Vermont; and have credentials appropriate for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (clinical scholar or tenure pathway) at UVM. Proven and substantial leadership experience is required, as is the ability to be a collaborative leader in a rapidly evolving model of care.

The University encourages applications from all individuals who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the institution.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Questions or materials should be sent electronically to UVM's consultants Claudia Teschky or Joyce De Leo, PhD at: UVMChairAnes@wittkieffer.com or phone: 630-990-1370. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, letter of interest, and a statement of your expertise and prior contributions to diversity and social justice.
