Overview
About the Position: This is an opportunity to serve those that have served us as a Biomedical Research Scientist with the Research & Surveillance (R&S) Division of the Extremity Trauma & Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE), and located at the Center for the Intrepid (CFI), Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. This individual will be responsible for supporting the execution of a systematic research plan to address identified and emerging clinical gap areas within EACE's research portfolio, with particular emphasis on extremity tissue health after extremity trauma coupled with comprehensive and multi-scale approaches for optimizing health outcomes.
The candidate will conduct research studies aimed at improving the function and quality of life for patients with traumatic extremity injuries, including limb loss. Examples of the types of investigations conducted are: 1) Optimization of extremity tissue health at the interface between the person and the device (e.g. limb/socket interface, limb/exoskeleton interface, and osseointegration), 2) Collection of outcome measures relevant to advance the health of patients that have sustained extremity trauma, and 3) Conduction of clinical trials to assess advanced surgical and rehabilitation treatments following complex trauma.

Expertise in the scientific method, experiment development, statistics, generation of scientific products, grant writing and management, Institutional Review Board regulations and processes are required.
Experience in conducting scientific biomedical research from the most basic to applied, clinical outcomes-oriented efforts are critical.

- Serve as staff scientist within the EACE R&S for translational and clinical research emphasizing the optimization of extremity tissue health following traumatic injury.
- Serve a functional role on multidisciplinary research teams to conduct systematic, critical, intensive investigations directed toward the development of new or fuller scientific knowledge of the subject studied. This includes the generation of research grant proposals and formulation of research protocols.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of rehabilitation therapies, kinesiology, biomechanics, and engineering to design and execute methodologically sound studies.
- Disseminate the findings of specialized studies for the advancement of clinical care through the consolidation of research findings and conclusions into completed products for publication in high impact scientific journals and oral presentations at nation and internal scientific conferences.
