Job Summary
The Regional Medical Director will supervise multiple clinics in the assigned geographic region. In addition to coordinating care delivered within the regional clinics, the Regional Medical Director will maintain a collaborative relationship with the other Regional Directors. This connectivity will optimize consistent, family-centered and high-quality care throughout the Geisinger Pediatric outpatient practices.

Job Duties
The Regional Medical Director’s responsibilities include:
1. Provide leadership to the outpatient practices in the Region. Maintaining contact and supporting leadership in individual offices. This includes coordination with Regional Operations and Pediatric Administration.

2. Provide exceptional clinical care within a practice in the Region that is reflected in measures of quality, peer review, and patient satisfaction.

3. Ensure outpatient provider compliance with Geisinger’s Social Compact. This includes education during orientation, regular review of the providers’ goals and performance and mentoring and counseling as required by the individual circumstances. Supervise the physicians in the Region. Monitor physician performance and activities (outpatient clinic or hospital as relevant) of providers so that appropriate evaluations and OPPE can be completed on each physician as required by Pediatric Department and system leadership.

4. Work with the other Regional Directors and Pediatric Administration to establish practice standards, which include appropriate development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines, performance standards and policies.

5. Work with Pediatric Administration to implement outpatient quality program that utilizes established programs and bench marks developed by outpatient quality leadership.

6. Support Geisinger’s academic mission by providing an exciting teaching environment for trainees (PA and CRNP students, medical students and residents) to the extent possible within the outpatient clinic (according to the priorities developed by the Pediatric Administration).

7. Share responsibility with Pediatric Regional Operation Managers for the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating operations, including managing patient volumes, provider templates and the annual budget.

8. Provide supervision and coordination of all elements of the Pediatric Practices within the Region (administrative, budgetary, personnel). Mentor and support new providers (physicians and Ancillary Providers).

9. With other Regional Directors, assist in the development of Telephone Triage and Care Protocols to be used during clinic hours and after hours to assure excellence and consistency of care to patients and patient access.

10. Participate in community focused initiatives that advance the prevention of childhood illness and injury and promote advocacy for all children.

11. Assist the Pediatric Administration in understanding clinical priorities for recruiting and retaining outpatient pediatric providers and staff in the Regional Pediatric Offices addressing issues of access, utilization and standards of best practice.

12. Attend and participate in regular Pediatric Department Leadership and Regional outpatient meetings.

13. Participate in/Direct regular meetings of the physicians within the Region to assure communication of the priorities of Pediatric Administration and Geisinger Health system to the providers in the region. Work to understand the local issues that are brought to these meeting by the providers and staff and subsequently communicate those to Pediatric Administration.

14. Oversee, coordinate and manage time off issues (Vacation and CME) to assure adequate staffing of the clinics. Anticipate and communicate issues and problems to Administration. This includes processing vacation and CME, ensuring compliance with current vacation and CME policies, adjusting for FMLA issues, anticipating and communication the personnel issues (moves, recruitments, training) and assure documentation of Time Off per personnel policy in Kronos.

15. Manage the resolution of practice related problems in collaboration with Regional Operations and Pediatric Administration.

16. Act as a liaison to outpatient subspecialties practicing within the Region.
