Chief of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Services Westchester Medical Center-WMCHealth-Valhalla, NY The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services of the Westchester Medical Health Center announces the search for a Chief of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Services. The Westchester Medical Health Center (WMCHealth) is a 1,900-bed healthcare system headquartered in Valhalla, New York, with 10 hospitals on 8 campuses spanning 6,200 square miles of the Hudson Valley. WMCHealth employs more than 12,000 people and has nearly 3,000 attending physicians. From Level 1, Level 2, and Pediatric Trauma Centers, the region's only acute care children's hospital, an academic medical center, several community hospitals, dozens of specialized institutes and centers, skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, homecare services, and one of the largest mental health systems in New York State, today WMCHealth is the pre-eminent provider of integrated healthcare in the Hudson Valley. The position is based at the Valhalla campus and oversight includes transfusion services for the Westchester Medical Center including the Marie Ferrari Children's Hospital and the MidHudson Regional Hospital. As our academic affiliation is with New York Medical College, School of Medicine, responsibilities include teaching of medical students, residents and fellows from many disciplines as well as the PGY 1 -PGY IV Pathology residents. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of clinical medicine, laboratory science, regulatory agency and accrediting body rules and requirements as well as general laboratory operations. Employment expectations include, but limited to: Consultations to clinicians regarding the appropriateness of blood/product transfusion, and the medical significance of laboratory findings Interface and function effectively with all applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, administrative officials, the medical community, and manufacturers Provide strategic planning for the development, implementation and maintenance of processes for quality improvement, blood utilization and cost effectiveness. Provide leadership, safety and technical guidance to the laboratory personnel in a constructive atmosphere Strong oral/written communication skills and problem solving skills Qualifications: MD/DO and be Board Certified in Transfusion Medicine Board Certified in AP/CP or CP Board Certified Pathologist Unrestricted medical license in the state of New York Must possess or eligible for NYSDOH-CLEP Certificates of Qualification in immunohematology and transfusion services A minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience in Transfusion Medicine is strongly preferred For more information about this opportunity, contact Daphne Advanced Clinical Recruiter by email to Daphne.Michel@wmchealth.org
