Make an impact on the development of novel ANTICANCER agents, come TRAIN at the National cancer institute (NCI)!

The Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking energetic and dedicated candidates for the position of Clinical Fellow/Senior Clinical Fellow in the DCTD Clinical Oncology Advanced Developmental Therapeutics Training Program (ADTTP). Increased number of novel therapeutic agents and the progressively greater complexity of early clinical trials have led to a need for more physicians with special skills in drug development. The major objective of the ADTTP is to provide medical oncologists advanced training in state-of-the-science principles and technologies of developmental therapeutics in the oncology field by utilizing unique resources available within the NCI.

The successful candidate(s) will participate in clinical research conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in the Developmental Therapeutics Clinic (DTC) of the NCI. The program will provide an excellent opportunity to refine skills in clinical investigation, including: novel strategies for trial design and methodology, protocol development, execution, monitoring, conformity with ethical standards, and formulation of attainable and pertinent laboratory correlates.

The trainee(s) will spend their clinical time in the Developmental Therapeutics Clinic at the Center for Cancer Research, National Institute of Health. In addition the trainee(s) will rotate a portion of their time through the DCTD Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) (http://ctep.cancer.gov/). The CTEP component of the training will broaden the trainee’s knowledge of new drug development by providing a unique opportunity to learn principles and concepts of agent prioritization, drug development strategies, protocol development and review, Investigational New Drug (IND) requirements, adverse event assessment and reporting.

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • MD or an equivalent degree;
  • Completion of subspecialty training in Medical Oncology at a US accredited institution;

A full federal package of benefits (including retirement, leave, health, life, and a 401K equivalent savings plan, etc.) is available. This is a time-limited federal appointment not-to-exceed 2-3 years (there is no assurance of a tenure track or permanent position with the NCI upon completion of the program). Salary will be commensurate with experience.

To apply for this position please submit your Curriculum Vitae, three letters of recommendation (preferably one from the Medical Oncology training program director or supervisor of last professional position), Permanent Residency documentation (if applicable), and personal statement of research goals to: Monika Sarna, DCTD, NCI Administrative Officer at: msarna@mail.nih.gov. For more information, please contact Alice Chen, MD at: 301-496-4291.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY June 30, 2021.
