Seeking two full-time Neuro-intensivists

The Department of Neurology at Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health is seeking two full-time Neuro-intensivists to partner with two experienced faculty members to develop our rapidly-growing Neurocritical Care service.

The program is based in an 8-bed, dedicated Neuro-ICU recently retrofitted and equipped with state-of-the art neuromonitoring equipment, including multimodality monitoring technology. Neurocritical care consultation is also provided in the Emergency Department and other intensive care units. Our team consists of two existing Neuro-intensivists and 8 full-time Advanced Care Providers. Staten Island University Hospital is the only Level-1 Trauma Center on Staten Island, has 24/7 neurosurgical and neuro-interventional services, and champions a highly collegial interdisciplinary atmosphere.

The successful candidates will have an interest in program development including training members of the new neuro-critical care team. Teaching responsibilities include continual training of our 8 dedicated NP/PA Advanced Care Providers and instruction for rotating physician trainees; our inaugural classes of Neurology Residents and Neurovascular Fellows start service in July 2021. 

Candidates will have completed residency training in Neurology, a UCNS-accredited fellowship in Neurocritical Care, and hold a NY State medical license.

The Neurology Service Line led by Dr. Souhel Najjar, a world-renowned physician, internationally recognized for his clinical, research, and teaching expertise, having dedicated his career to the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, neuro-inflammation related neuropsychiatric disorders, and autoimmune disorders of central nervous system.

The Department of Neurology has seen tremendous growth over the past five years within Long Island, New York City and Westchester; with the goal of providing comprehensive, integrated health care and wellness services. The Service Line has 73 full-time neurologists, 24 Advanced Care providers, and 139 support staff members. The Department of Neurology brings together the vast resources of Northwell Health and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell to provide state-of-the-art care while contributing to advances in technology, education, and research.
