Job Summary
Forward looking physician executive responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive, long-range system-wide view of the Geisinger strategic plan as it relates to assigned institutes. Leads assigned institutes throughout the system, including the Geisinger Hospitals, the affiliated hospitals and the outpatient arena. Drives change for the betterment of patient care, members, and the Geisinger communities.

Job Duties
Develops the strategic programmatic plan for the institutes that specifically addresses regional clinical needs, patient expectations, quality of care, clinical markets, cost of care, and the efficient utilization of resources across the continuum of care. Explores and develops innovative programs that will enhance programmatic growth as well as patient care. Fosters the continuation and growth of existing specialized clinical programs. Develops standards of care for the assigned Institutes across the system and communicates standards with provider staff. Work with other applicable Geisinger Institutes and the Health Plan to develop and achieve system quality and safety goals. In conjunction with Institute Chairs, develop specific privileges and credentials for physicians practicing in the disciplines within the assigned institutes. Attends and participates in system-wide leadership meetings, and other forums as appropriate. Establishes the course and direction of the assigned institutes consistent with the overall system’s strategies. Conducts the annual evaluation of each direct report and their performance, with the development of personal goals and professional growth. Serve as mentor for the chairs, directors, associate staff, advanced practitioners, medical students, resident physicians and fellows. Develop an effective partnership with Institute leadership, physician staff, administrative counterparts and operational leadership. Responsible for the assigned institutes financial performance and for achieving fiscal performance targets. Assures that excellent post-graduate medical education occurs for assigned areas, at the medical student, resident, and fellowship levels. Work with the Institute Chairs, Medical Education and the leadership of the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and other applicable Geisinger Institutes to develop and achieve system standards of excellence in medical education. Encourage, develop, and coordinate research activity within the institutes in a fashion that enhances clinical care, encourages professional growth and supports post-graduate training programs. Promotes opportunities for continuing medical education for staff of the Geisinger Clinic and affiliated hospitals, as well as for referring physicians. Support, motivate and guide the development of assigned provider staff in such a fashion that enhances their professional growth and their contributions to the institutes and the system. Assumes responsibility for the development of a culture within the institutes that exceeds patient expectations. Develops standards and measures of performance to promote service improvement. Develops a culture within the institutes that understands the specific needs of referring physicians and providers and continuously seeks to meet and or exceed those expectations. Reviews the institutes’ risk management experience as well as liability trends to develop educational programs, which will assist in the reduction of the institutes’ and the system’s medical legal liability risk. Develop an environment that supports the non-physician staff to enhance the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of care. Develop an environment in which all employees are respected and their contributions to patient care and service are recognized in an appropriate fashion. Develop, coordinate, and implement a utilization management plan that is consistent with the system’s goals, meets regulatory organization requirements, and emphasizes evidence based, cost-effective care in the inpatient and outpatient arenas. Support the continued improvement, in conjunction with system initiatives, of the electronic health record to enhance patient care, reduce errors, improve patient safety, and enhance the overall delivery of care in the inpatient and outpatient arenas. Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Education
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
