About St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, a partnership between Tower Health and Drexel University, is a 188-bed facility that provides exceptional care to children throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and surrounding counties.

With more than 220 pediatric experts on staff, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children combines top-notch pediatric care with a wide array of pediatric specialties, including Cardiology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Oncology, and Orthopedics. It houses the only Verified Pediatric Only Burn Center between New York City and Baltimore and is one of only three Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers in Pennsylvania. Job Summary

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children has a unique opportunity under recent new joint ownership of Tower Health System and Drexel University with an academic affiliate of Drexel University College of Medicine. We are seeing a dynamic and enthusiastic physician leader in the Clinical Educator Track with strong clinical skills, a genuine interest in education of students and trainees, and interest and skills in research and clinical investigation.

The Section of Pediatric Pulmonary & Allergy at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children seeks a full-time Section Chief. The responsibilities for the new chief include serving as an exceptional academic and administrative leader for the Section of Pediatric Pulmonary & Allergy. The new Section Chief will exhibit a strong and proven commitment to excellence in delivery of care, research, clinical skills, education and advocacy. Along with the responsibility for all clinical, educational, research and operational functioning within the division, the Section Chief will work with the Chair of Pediatrics, departmental leadership and senior institutional leadership to advance the clinical and academic mission of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, oversee budgeting, staff management, patient flow, research, and other functions necessary for the development and maintenance of a very strong Pediatric Pulmonary & Allergy practice, including a state and federally funded Cystic Fibrosis Center, Sleep Laboratory & Pulmonary Function Laboratory.

The Section provides full spectrum of acute and chronic lung therapies for children and youth. Additionally, they provide the skill and competency in bronchoscopy and interpretation of pulmonary functions and competency in managing technologically dependent children, asthma, as well as cystic fibrosis.

The successful candidate will possess strong clinical skills with a high interest in teaching. Our academic affiliation is with Drexel University College of Medicine, providing many opportunities as a teaching hospital to mentor and to train the next generation of professionals in pediatric medicine. There is also an opportunity to pursue research interest, as they relate to our multicultural community and clinical setting.

  • The Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.
  • The Chief will provide leadership, vision and management in accomplishing the mission and goals of the section, Department of Pediatrics and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in advancing quality in patient care, education, research, and service.
  • The Chief position includes the opportunity and challenge to build a division that meets the evolving needs for a growing integrated health care delivery system. This includes filling current vacancies, exploring the addition of sub-specialty services and programs.
  • Interaction with dynamic clinicians and innovative educational approaches.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and qualify for appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine
  • BE/BC Pediatric Pulmonary and Pediatrics
  • Hold or be eligible for an unrestricted and unchallenged license to practice medicine in the state of Pennsylvania & in the state of New Jersey
  • Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience
  • The applicant should have excellent organizational and leadership skills,
  • Experience in research and clinical investigation
