Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has made an historic commitment to promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in its workforce and its scientific mission. As part of this remarkable initiative, Fred Hutch is seeking a candidate in Health Disparities and Health Equity Research to join an expanding group of innovative faculty focused on advancing health equity in cancer and infectious disease research. Scientists and clinician-scientists of all academic ranks - Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor with MD and/or PhD or equivalent - are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have experience commensurate with rank in one of the following areas: identifying and understanding the biological, sociological, environmental, or systemic factors associated with health disparities; developing and testing community-engaged prevention, screening, and/or therapeutic interventions to promote health equity for underserved communities; dissemination and implementation science; and/or care delivery research that seeks to eliminate inequities among underserved populations. The successful candidate will develop/continue an independent research program within our collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is one of the world’s leading academic research centers and its focus is on cancer and infectious disease related research across all disciplines. At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an antiracist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and inclusion. Successful candidates for this faculty search will be those who demonstrate a commitment to these principles.

Faculty will join a supportive and highly collaborative environment that is committed to ensuring the development and success of strong research and mentoring programs. Successful candidates will be invited to join one or more of these three scientific divisions: Clinical Research, Public Health Sciences, and Vaccine and Infectious Disease. There may be additional opportunities for collaboration with Fred Hutch’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and/or the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement.

Fred Hutch, together with the University of Washington, Seattle Children’s, and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with active training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. In addition, Fred Hutch has outstanding facilities and cutting-edge shared resources to support faculty. Fred Hutch is a modern campus located next to Lake Union in Seattle, Washington, and is close to other non-profit research institutes and the University of Washington. Additional information about Fred Hutch and its scientific divisions can be found at: http://www.fhcrc.org/science/

 Application Instructions

Interested candidates should submit: 1) a curriculum vitae; 2) a concise research statement that describes past accomplishments and future goals (three pages or less); 3) a diversity statement describing your past contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and your future plans for continuing these efforts (two pages or less); and 4) contact information for three letters of recommendation. Reference letters will be solicited for Assistant Professor applicants and may be solicited for senior applicants over the course of the search process. Candidates must identify which scientific division - Clinical Research, Public Health Sciences, or Vaccine and Infectious Disease - they believe is the best fit for their work. For consideration, applicants need to have a PhD, MD/PhD, MD, or other doctorate degree and an academic track record consistent with rank. All components must be submitted for the application to move forward in the review process. Applications received before November 1, 2020 will be given full consideration by the search committee though this search will remain open until it is filled. Contact Charles Smarr at: csmarr@fredhutch.org with any questions.
