About Northwell Health

As New York State’s largest private employer and one of the nation’s largest health care systems, Northwell Health is home to more than 74,000 employees, 23 hospitals, more than 6,500 hospital and long-term care beds, nearly 800 ambulatory facilities, and various urgent care centers, pharmacies, and additional health services. Northwell Health delivers world-class clinical care throughout the New York metropolitan area, pioneering research at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, and training the next generation of medical professionals through the visionary Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Northwell trains 1,800 residents and fellows in 160 programs. Five Northwell hospitals are rated among the nation’s best in the 2020-21 U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Northwell Health’s mission is to improve the health of the communities it serves. Northwell’s focus is on prevention, wellness, and providing the full continuum of diagnosis, treatment, and after-care services to all those the health system serves. Northwell provides seamless, coordinated care through 4,000 employed physicians, 13,600+ affiliated physicians, 16,000+ nurses, and 4,725+ volunteers across more than 100 clinical specialties, for over 2 million patients. Cohen Children’s Medical Center

Cohen Children's Medical Center is dedicated to providing the highest levels of care to meet the special needs of children, from premature babies to adolescents. This 206-bed hospital opened in 1983 as the New York metropolitan area's only hospital designed exclusively for children. Today, Cohen Children’s is the largest provider of pediatric health services in New York State, serving 1.8 million children in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Cohen Children’s Medical Center knows how important it is to choose the right care for a child. Cohen Children’s is proud to be nationally ranked for continued excellence in pediatric care, as the medical center has been named to U.S. News & World Report’s list of the top 50 leading children’s hospitals for the 14th year in a row. Cohen Children’s is nationally ranked in nine pediatric specialties, Pediatric Endocrinology being ranked 27th nationally.

In 2017, Cohen Children’s launched a new pediatric kidney transplant program to provide a much-needed service for children with kidney disease. The medical center became accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Level 3 patient-centered medical home for children and their families. The medical center partnered with the community to bring a temporary helipad across the street from the main campus, to nearly eliminate time children spend in an ambulance during an emergency. In addition, Cohen Children’s cultivates scientific rigor and examination into complex diseases that affect children. For example, Cohen Children’s is one of the only hospitals in the tristate area to provide metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) treatment for pediatric cancer patients with an aggressive form of neuroblastoma.

Cohen Children’s remains on the cutting edge of innovation, with scholars conducting research on a broad range of studies on pediatric care. Cohen Children’s partners with Northwell Health’s Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, home to 50 research laboratories and to clinical research throughout dozens of hospitals. Cohen Children’ conducts many clinical trials to help shape the future of pediatric care. Using the widespread Cohen Children’s network, the organization has collected one of the world’s most diverse databases of DNA profiles from children with cancer and their relatives, in order to change the future of cancer treatment.

Cohen Children’s has created a warm and bright environment to make a child's stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Every aspect of the spacious, open building is child oriented - from the fold-out beds for parents to the fully staffed playrooms on each floor. Caregivers are dedicated to providing the most skilled and sensitive treatment for all of a child’s healthcare needs. Cohen Children’s goal is to help children feel comfortable, safe and stress-free.
