A 2-3-year bench research fellowship is available at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and is designed to prepare scientists for successful research careers in Endocrinology, Cardiology, and/or Nephrology. The program investigates the genetic underpinnings of hormonal mechanisms associated with cardiovascular and renal phenotypes of hypertension and diabetes with training in cell, organ and animal physiology, cell and molecular biology. Genes currently under investigation include: caveolin 1, angiotensinogen, LSD1, striatin, mTORC, beta 2 adrenergic receptor, and estrogen receptor beta. The program is uniquely associated with a human genetics unit in an overall translational research group with a common goal of developing specific approaches to personalized medicine.
