The Medical Director is an essential part of both inpatient critical care and the outpatient pulmonary medical practice. Working for the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Vice President of Physician Services and under the direct supervision of the hospital CMO, the Medical Director will be the primary liaison for all critical care and pulmonary related activities in the WDH System. The Medical Director will be the champion for quality and service excellence, and strive to create an environment that will attract and retain excellent clinicians. The Medical Director will also act as the Medical Director of the Chest Clinic.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Clinical Management
- Establish, review, and support standards of care for critical care and pulmonary medicine as directed by the governing body of the Medical Staff.
- Facilitate clinical programs within critical care and pulmonary practice, recommending programs and studies, participating in design, and reviewing program study results where appropriate.
- Review proposals for new patient services as needs present, and assists in the representation of these issues to the CMO and executive team.
- Develop, implement, and champion strategies for clinical patient management and practice management that are consistent with "best practice" strategies in the current health care environment as found in current literature or through networking with peer groups.
- Assist CMO or VP of nursing as needed to address medically related issues within critical care and pulmonary medicine with physicians, mid-level providers, staff, and patients, with the goal of fostering a positive, consumer focused, and fiscally sound process.
- Assists in the identification of appropriate continuing education topics based on best practice trends and works to make such opportunities available for the clinical staff.
- Acts as the liaison between critical care and pulmonary practice and Hospitalist program to assure continuity of care and effective communication occurs. Regular meeting with the medical director of the hospitalist program are recommended.
