The Duke University Hospital is recruiting for a Medical Advisor to Duke Emergency Preparedness Coalition - Regular rank faculty Emergency Physician.

Responsibilities include Emergency Department disaster planning, training, and response; collaboration with hospital-wide stakeholders such as the OR, ICU, Surgery, Radiology, Transfusion Services, Registration, and security for coordinated responses to both adult and pediatric mass casualty incidents; and serving as a liaison to hospital administration and leadership. This role involves the development of disaster plans, staff training, disaster equipment procurement, and conducting tabletops and drills. The Medical Advisor responds to the DUH emergency department to advise ED leadership and to provide additional physician faculty coverage, during Duke University Hospital disaster activations.

Education Requirements: Medical Degree (MD, DO) with Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM), as well as EMS Fellowship and BC/BE in EMS. Experience in medical direction in EMS service preferred.

The Duke State Medical Assistance Team (SMAT) is a volunteer group of health professionals who provide patient care during state declared emergencies in out of hospital environments. Additionally, Duke SMAT, which functions as a part of the Duke Healthcare Preparedness Coalition, provides medical care at various large regional community events and gatherings. The Medical Director of Duke SMAT is responsible for providing medical oversight through leading and participating in training events, developing disaster plans, and providing physician level supervision and patient care during team deployments and throughout the year. This role will also serve as the Medical Advisor to the Duke Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (HCPC). The role of the medical advisor is to work with coalition members and State Office of EMS officials to provide medical expertise in developing regional healthcare preparedness plans. Additional responsibilities include coalition outreach, input on state sheltering plans, and participation in coalition steering committee meetings.
