Overview

Due to extensive growth and community need, Reading Hospital/Tower Health is seeking a 4th Dual-Trained Endovascular Neurosurgeon to join our experienced and highly respected neurosurgical practice that has served Berks County for nearly six decades. The ideal candidate will also have the opportunity to be the Stroke Medical Director.

For the past two years Beckers' has ranked our Neurosurgery & Spine program on the top 100 in the nation. Tower Health is developing a Neuroscience Center in response to the expanding Neurology & Neurosurgery volume as well as the growing community needs. In the past 4 years Tower Health has hired 18 Neurologist and 5 Neurosurgeons.

The Tower Health Neuroscience Center is a multi-subspecialty clinical service line addressing the needs in the six Tower Health hospitals in 4 counties of Southeast PA. Reading Hospital is in the final stages of developing a Comprehensive Stroke Program to deal with the growing volume and acuity. The Stroke Center has a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary stroke team with a state of art stroke unit and is supported by a technologically advanced endovascular treatment program and a Neuro ICU with 3 fellowship trained Neurointensivists. The stroke program is driven by the busiest Emergency Department in PA with over 135,000 visits per year with call primarily being done by telestroke. Over the past 5 years, Reading Hospital has responded to the critical community need by hiring 20+ Neurologists and 5 Neurosurgeons.

Tower Health is a regional, integrated healthcare system comprised of seven (7) acute care hospitals that offers leading-edge compassionate healthcare and wellness services to a population of 2.5 million people across southeastern Pennsylvania.

Drexel University and Tower Health have joined forces to add an additional location for the university's College of Medicine in West Reading, less than one mile from the Reading Hospital campus. This collaboration will bring undergraduate and graduate clinical education and research to a single campus. The new campus will be completed in time for the 2021-2022 academic year. When fully operational, the campus will train 200 medical school students.

Most recently, Tower Health & Drexel University partnered to acquire St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia which adds the much-needed Pediatric acute care to the expanding health system. St. Christopher's provides care to more than 100,000 children annually.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate must be fellowship trained in endovascular and open vascular procedures, have a strong interest in supporting the Comprehensive Stroke Program and be willing to perform general surgery as well as participate in trauma call; call will be 1:7.
  • Surgical volume consists of spinal, brain and peripheral nerves.
  • The Neuro ICU is supported by 4 Neurointensivists
  • The Neurosurgeons are supported by a strong team of Advanced Practitioners.
  • The stroke program is driven by the busiest Emergency Department in PA with over 135,000 visits per year.

New surgical tower, HealthPlex is a 476,000 square foot state-of-the-art surgical and inpatient tower that opened in the fall of 2016 which feature:
  • 24 surgical suites, including 6 hybrid capable operating rooms
  • Stealth Neuronavigaton
  • Zeiss Pentero Micoscope
  • New Brain Lab


Qualifications

Requirements: MD or DO; Candidates must be licensed/eligible to practice medicine in Pennsylvania and BE/BC in endovascular and open vascular procedures; fellowship required.
