JOB TITLE: Clinical Decision Unit Physician

LOCATION: Muncy, PA

DEPARTMENT: Emergency Medicine/Clinical Decision Unit

WORK TYPE: Full time

Geisinger is seeking a BC/BE physician in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine-Pediatrics to staff our new Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) in Muncy, PA. The facility is expected to open in January 2020. The CDU is part of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

The unit: The Geisinger CDU is an outpatient observation unit specifically designed to provide a value-based practice model for ED patients who need additional observational services. CDU patients are medically stable and are expected to be discharged within 24-36 hours.

The practice: The CDU physician is responsible for the care and disposition of patients in the unit. The goal is to disposition all patients who were admitted the previous day. When the day's clinical work is completed the "CDUist" signs out to the Emergency Physician on duty who actively covers the unit until next morning. Thus the CDU and EM providers function as a team to manage the CDU patients. To accomplish this effectively, the unit is located contiguous to the ED.

The work-life aspect: CDU practice is a unique opportunity to experience a satisfying and medically challenging practice for physicians looking for more intensity than office-based medicine, but without the work/life stresses of hospital medicine. Additionally, the position has no exposure to night shifts.
